Job description
Corps member Esteban Candelaria is covering the implementation of a New Mexican program intended to fund universal childcare for five years.
He recently reported that the state rapidly overspent its first-year budget, with unforeseen costs possibly reaching $50 million, raising concerns about the viability of the program. The state-subsidized childcare assistance model is a first-in-the-nation initiative, and earlier reporting found that demand has rapidly outpaced capacity.
