Process Automation Engineer - Internship (f/m/d)

We are Metrify Smart Metering, Germany’s largest competitive smart metering operator, and a new strategic spin-off initiative by Enpal. Are you ready for one of the great infrastructure challenges of the 2100s? To truly transform into a decentralized power grid that can support a fully electrified, renewable future, millions of homes need to be equipped with smart meters and control systems. That’s why we are performing the fastest smart meter roll-out in the German market at unprecedented scale, shaping the way this digitally transformed grid will operate. Our mission is to enable utilities, grid operators, and energy providers to install and operate smart meters. Our service portfolio covers all aspects of metering operations: from electricity meter installation and market communication to data management and clearing. While Metrify emerged from Enpal, we now operate independently in the market, serving a broad range of commercial customers, energy suppliers, and municipal utilities Automate the operations behind every meter exchange Metrify's Multi-Family Home team runs meter exchanges in apartment buildings, and your code will help run them. In a team of seven, you'll turn the operations we do by hand into automations that save time, reduce errors, and ship faster. What you'll do • Develop the automation layer on our ERP system. • Write Python scripts that pull and process data from internal and external APIs, Airtable, and our ERP interface. • Map end-to-end operational processes with the team, then design automations that handle every edge case. • Build an ops layer so non-technical colleagues can run and understand your tools without asking you. • Work directly with the Multi-Family Home team, business operations, and tech and product, and be the bridge between them. What you'll bring • A technical background in computer science or engineering (EEE, mechanical, or similar). Strong business profiles with real tech skills are welcome too. • Programming experience, ideally Python, and comfort working in a code repository (e.g., Git, GitHub, or similar). • Curiosity about how businesses actually run, and an eye for edge cases. • Clear communication, including explaining technical topics to people who don't code. • Fluent English. German is a plus. • Availability for a 6-month full-time internship, with the chance to stay on. • Nice to have: SQL experience. Why this role stands out • Real impact from day one: Your automations will be used in live meter installation and business operations. • Design freedom: You choose the tech stack, tooling, and approach. We're early, so you'll shape how things are built. • Visibility: You'll work closely with the team lead and see how a business runs end to end. Are you interested, even if you don't meet all the requirements? Apply anyway! We look forward to discovering your potential — regardless of whether your experience meets every single requirement. ☀️ What we offer • Work at Germany's first green unicorn - Play an active role in shaping the solar energy transition. • The sun shines all over the world - At Enpal, you'll work with a highly motivated, diverse team of over 65 nationalities. • Grown-up business & startup spirit - In our modern office in Berlin-Friedrichshain, you'll find everything your heart desires, from height-adjustable desks and table tennis to stocked beverage fridges and barista coffee. • Your kick-start at Enpal - Onboarding day with a welcome bag, buddy program, and a team that really supports you. • Stay up to date & help shape the future - Transparent all-hands meetings, short decision-making processes, and an open feedback culture - without mistakes, there is no progress. • The energy transition can only be achieved together - At Enpal, you can expect legendary team spirit and unforgettable team events. • Investing in your future – We don’t just think sustainably when it comes to energy, but also when it comes to you.
