Senior Backend Engineer - Energy Management Platform (all genders)

How you can contribute to gridXDistributed energy resources are transforming the global grid, and our cloud platform sits right at the center of it. Every day, our Cloud EMS and core APIs power tens of thousands of connected systems, serving as the foundational infrastructure that engineering teams rely on to build the future of clean energy. If you thrive on stability, scalability, and high-stakes system design, this is your place to #makeamark. At gridX, we build with purpose and live by a clear set of values: we #get shit done, continuously push boundaries to #make a mark, #appreciate with all your heart, and welcome everyone to #come as you are. Ready to power the future of energy infrastructure? Apply now to join our team as a Senior Backend Engineer! What you'll do • Own features end-to-end: Turn requirements into impactful solutions, taking them from analysis and implementation through testing, observability, and continuous iteration. • Solve problems, not just tickets: Identify technical challenges, shape pragmatic solutions, and drive them all the way from idea to production. • Keep systems reliable: Investigate and resolve complex issues across distributed systems, lead incident response, and turn post-mortems into meaningful improvements. • Build for scale: Continuously improve system stability, performance, and scalability as the fleet grows and complexity increases. • Create clarity: Maintain well-defined API specifications and clear component documentation that make systems easier to understand, use, and evolve. • Shape technical direction: Drive cross-team architectural decisions and help establish scalable, maintainable integration patterns. • Help others grow: Mentor teammates through thoughtful code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and guidance that builds confidence and autonomy. • Enable better decisions: Write clear design documents and RFCs that create alignment and enable effective async decision-making across teams. This is how you and your application stand out• Deep backend engineering background with a proven track record of building, scaling, and operating reliable systems in production • Systems thinking with the ability to identify root causes, recognize architectural gaps, and solve underlying problems rather than patching symptoms • Strong autonomy with the ability to turn ambiguous problems into actionable plans and drive them through to completion with minimal guidance • Sound technical judgment with the ability to make pragmatic decisions while considering long-term trade-offs and implications • High ownership mindset with responsibility for taking work from the initial problem statement through production and ongoing operation • Focus on clear API design and documentation as first-class aspects of building maintainable and scalable systems • Experience with Go and its ecosystem, including building and operating production services • Experience with Kubernetes and operating containerized services in production environments • Experience with data infrastructure, including key-value stores such as Redis/Valkey and analytical databases such as ClickHouse or similar technologies • Experience with incident response and post-mortems, with a focus on learning from incidents and improving system reliability over time Nice to have • Mentorship experience with a track record of helping engineers grow through code reviews, design guidance, pairing, and constructive feedback • Experience with energy management systems • Experience in platform/infrastructure engineering where your users are other engineering teams • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana) • Protobuf and gRPC-gateway experience Why gridX• Flexible & mobile working: Work remotely for up to 70 days per year from anywhere within the EU & in selected countries outside of the EU. • Vacation: Enjoy 30 vacation days plus 0.5 additional days off on both December 24th and December 31st. • Health & sports: Receive a €30 monthly allowance for Urban Sports Club or EGYM Wellpass and benefit from company health management and mental health support offerings. • Personal development: Access cross-functional coaching, e-learning platforms, and an annual development budget of €1,500. • Employee discounts: Take advantage of exclusive offers through gridX Corporate Benefits. • JobRad: Stay active, commute sustainably, and save with our bike leasing program. • Company pension plan: Benefit from a fair monthly employer contribution to your pension plan. • Mobility support: Receive a €30 monthly subsidy for your public transportation ticket. • Modern workplace: Work from our offices in the hearts of Aachen or Munich with IT equipment of your choice. • Team events & culture: Experience the gridX culture through regular team events and receive an additional €100 budget per employee for department events. • Birthday donation: We'll donate €20 to a charity of your choice on your birthday. • Sabbatical option: Take a break from your daily work routine to pursue personal projects, travel, or further education. *Please note that our benefits may differ for employees working 100% remotely.
