Senior Product Designer (Illustration & Motion, EdTech)

Location: 100% remote (EMEA, CET±2), with team gatherings in person a few times a year Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week Pay: €60.000 to €90.000 annually, adjusted by experience and location At Miaplaza, we build homeschool platforms that kids aged 4–18 actually want to use — Miacademy, MiaPrep, and our Online High School are serving over 150.000 students today. Our product foundations are strong. What we want next is a step change in how our products feel: more expressive illustration, more purposeful motion, more moments of craft that turn a lesson into something a kid remembers. We're hiring a Senior Product Designer whose craft anchor is illustration and motion. Our design team is small and senior, five designers when you join, and each brings a distinct strength: brand, design systems, research, and now yours The role You'd own product design for the student learning experience end-to-end: from problem framing through delivery, in a Product Trio with a PM and EM who have strong opinions and expect yours. This is product work with real trade-offs — pedagogical, technical, and business — and you're accountable for how it lands, not just how it looks. Beyond Curriculum, you'd set the illustration and motion bar for all of Miaplaza: the standards, motion principles, and character direction that the other designers and the design system build from. A defining part of the role is art-directing AI-assisted production. You'd build the prompts, references, and review process that let a small team produce quality illustration and motion at a scale hand-crafting alone can't reach. We don't expect you to know every current tool — we expect the taste and judgment to direct output rather than accept defaults. You'd report to the Head of UX, with regular 1:1s covering craft, product, and career growth. The direction is upward: deeper craft leadership, cross-product influence, or both. You must have all of these to be considered: • A portfolio of shipped digital product work — not only concepts or standalone pieces • At least 2 years working as a product designer or a UI/UX designer inside a product team, collaborating with PMs and engineers • Strong illustration or motion skills, with at least 1 year focused on either as a primary craft • Proficiency in Figma • Some experience directing or guiding visual work produced by others — freelancers, junior designers, or AI tools You’ll stand out if you also have: • Deep motion skills in product contexts: interactions, transitions, onboarding, character animation • Experience using AI image or motion tools as production accelerators • Confidence running your own usability research, not just receiving findings • Multi-brand or education-focused design experience • Accessibility practice, especially for neurodivergent audiences This probably isn’t right for you if: • Your work hasn't yet lived inside a live product with real constraints • You prefer well-scoped tasks over shaping ambiguous problems • You see AI tools as either a threat to craft or a shortcut around it Our hiring process As a remote company, we receive a large number of applicants, and finding the best fit for this role is our top priority — that’s why our process is longer than usual. At every stage, we try to be respectful of your time and grateful you’re spending it with us. • Application and eligibility check — work authorization, timezone, availability • Async assessment — 12 scenario-based, multiple-choice questions (~30 min) + when qualifying; 3 open questions (max. 45 min) • If you pass the multiple choice section, you will asked to complete 3 open written questions (max. 45 min) • Portfolio review — the design team will review your best work and thinking • Behavioral interview — a conversation with our People team about how you work • Take-home design task — ~120 minutes, scoped for this role, AI tools encouraged • Hiring team interview — with a design team member and the Head of UX • Skip-level conversation — with executive leadership • Reference checks We give honest, timely feedback at every step. Job searches are hard; we don't want to make yours harder. Compensation and setup The pay range for this role is €60,000 - 90,000. Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering regional differences in labor costs. Placement within a range is determined based on factors such as demonstrated skills, internal equity, and local labor market rates for the candidate’s geographic area. Miaplaza is a growing, self-funded EdTech company. We're an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
