Software Engineer - Agentic Systems (m/f/d)

ABOUT US Unzer is a leading European fintech company with a mission to simplify international payments for e-commerce and retail businesses. Our brand was formed from 13 companies that now contribute to building a unique product covering the entire payment flow. At Unzer, we are driven by the belief that customers should enjoy a seamless shopping experience, no matter where they choose to shop. We are a team of over 700 experts of 55 different nationalities, dedicated to creating a state-of-the-art unified commerce platform. Our goal is to enable businesses to delight their customers with a seamless payment experience. Whether you're a tech enthusiast, payment expert, or a dedicated support professional, we are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Our offices: We are based across Austria, Denmark, Germany and Luxembourg with a HQ in Berlin. ABOUT THE TEAM You'll be part of the team responsible for the backbone of our e-commerce payment processing, building the services that move money safely and at scale. We care deeply about resilience, observability, and getting the hard details right, because in payments there's no room for "good enough." What your work will look like: • Design, build and ship features end to end for our AI products for the software development lifecycle, backed by solid tests and clear documentation. • Own key parts of how AI supports each lifecycle stage, from requirements and specification to coding, review, release and operations, and drive their delivery with the team. • Shape the architecture and technical direction of the AI-assisted development lifecycle through specs and design decisions. • Keep both products reliable, secure and trustworthy in production so teams can depend on them daily. • Continuously improve the codebase, tooling and processes, using the products themselves to raise the bar on how we build software. What you need to be successful in this role: • A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience) and 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience. • Strong programming skills in Java (or a comparable language), with experience building and maintaining production backend services. • Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agentic systems, such as tool calling, agent orchestration, prompt and context engineering, and evaluating agent output. A real curiosity about how AI can automate the software development lifecycle. • Comfort with AI native development in your own daily work, using coding agents and AI tooling to write, review and test code. • Solid experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB, including data modeling and query performance. • Good understanding of modern engineering practices: Git workflows, CI/CD, code review and test automation. You know these processes well enough to help automate them. • Experience integrating APIs and working in service-based architectures. • Clear communication, a collaborative mindset, and the confidence to share ideas and contribute to technical decisions within the team. Nice to have • Exposure to high-availability or high-volume systems, ideally in fintech or payments. • Experience with agent frameworks or protocols (e.g. MCP, LangGraph or similar), or with building internal developer tools. What’s next? • Does it sound exciting? - Apply with your CV in English. Please don’t shy away if you don’t meet all the requirements! We’re looking forward to meeting you. • We will get back to you within 14 days of receiving your application. • The interview process includes a 30-minute intro call with a TA Partner, a 60- minute call with the hiring manager, 60min skills assessment and a 30min final call. Please note the process might alter depending on our team’s availability. WHAT WE OFFER More than a workplace.
